A node with a real recovery plan

Validate the chain. Manage the channels.

Run your own Bitcoin backend and a compatible Lightning implementation with deliberate storage, access and funds management.

Match the chain strategy

A pruned backend and a full archival node have different disk requirements. The Warden tier can be evaluated for a pruned setup, but verify current chain size, implementation requirements and growth before choosing.

Keep control off the public internet

Expose only the intended peer services. Restrict Bitcoin RPC and Lightning administration to an authenticated private route and separate wallet keys from general application access.

Respect initial synchronisation

Initial block download and verification can take time and use sustained CPU, disk and network capacity. Measure actual progress rather than promising a fixed completion time.

Treat liquidity as committed funds

Channels require capital and active management. Routing revenue is uncertain. Understand fees, online-key risk and the implementation’s recovery procedure before opening channels.

Protect the specific recovery material

Keep wallet seeds and required channel backups privately outside the node. Follow upstream guidance: restoring a stale live-channel filesystem image can have different consequences from restoring ordinary application data.

Choose resources for this workload

Choose storage from the actual full-chain or pruned-node requirement, then leave room for growth, indexes and snapshots used by the application. Warden or Guardian can be comparison points, but current chain data and the chosen Lightning implementation determine the final resources.

A node and channel rollout

Use the maintained upstream instructions for the selected release. The sequence below identifies the decisions and pass conditions to record in your own runbook.

  • Install verified Bitcoin Core and a compatible Lightning implementation
  • Choose full or pruned storage and allow for the initial synchronisation
  • Keep RPC and wallet administration on a restricted interface
  • Record wallet and channel recovery procedures before funding
  • Test a restore procedure on disposable data and confirm backup updates
  • Open and manage funded channels only with an explicit custody and liquidity plan

What to verify before relying on it

Initial synchronisation can be lengthy and depends on storage, CPU and peers. A wallet seed does not automatically replace all channel recovery material. Hosting a Lightning node does not enable Lightning as a KoalaVPS checkout route.

A little more clarity.

Does this use case include a managed application installation?

No. It describes a workload for customer-administered infrastructure. Application setup, updates, moderation, licensing and recovery remain your responsibility unless a separate managed agreement says otherwise.
