A workspace with a clear boundary

Remote access, without loose ends.

A hosted desktop or development environment can make a project reachable from several devices. Treat it as a shared system with valuable data.

Choose the right kind of workspace

A browser-based development environment, SSH workflow and full Windows desktop serve different needs. Match the tools, licences and network experience to the work rather than adding a desktop layer automatically.

Protect the route in

Use a gateway or private access method where possible and give each user an individual account. Lock idle sessions and remove access when a project ends. Keep the remote client device secure too.

Keep files independent

Store source code and documents in controlled repositories or backups with an export path. A remote machine should not become the only place a project exists. Separate work credentials from browser profiles used for unrelated activity.

Plan the service hours

Decide whether the environment must run continuously or can be stopped when unused. Keep startup, update and recovery steps documented. Check licence and session limits before inviting additional users.
