VPN explained

VPN

An encrypted connection that joins networks or routes traffic through another endpoint.

What it means

A VPN shifts trust and the visible route; it does not make a device or browser anonymous by itself. DNS, IPv6 and split-tunnel behaviour need deliberate configuration.

For hosting

A self-hosted endpoint can be useful for private access. Keep it updated and understand what the VPS and upstream can still observe.

Which traffic actually enters the tunnel?

Test routes, DNS and both internet address families from the client. A split-tunnel setup can be correct when that is the intended design.
