01 / THE KOALAVPS WORKLOAD GUIDE

Design the machine around the workload.

A whole physical host gives you more decisions to make. Start with how the software, storage and recovery will work together.

Your own virtualisation host

Allocate resources across guest machines instead of treating the server as one application. Check hypervisor compatibility and the networking needed by those guests.

A database with a storage plan

Choose how drives serve data, logs and recovery. Test the intended database workload and keep an independent backup rather than relying on the drive count.

Work that keeps the host busy

Evaluate builds, batch processing or other sustained jobs with representative data. Check memory per worker and whether the software benefits from the available parallelism.

BEFORE YOU PICK A TIER

Three questions worth answering.

  1. Does the workload need a whole host or simply a larger virtual server?

  2. Which drive layout and recovery procedure will you operate?

  3. Can the software use the proposed core count without exhausting memory?

02 / FIND YOUR GUARDIAN

A starting point. A reason to step up.

Use these workload examples to narrow the choice. Measure your own application before treating a tier as a performance guarantee.

Choose for the work you can describe.

The catalogue keeps its published resource bundles. These notes explain where to begin and what to check before choosing more capacity.

04 / KEEP CONTROL AFTER DEPLOYMENT

The decisions behind the configuration.

Keep access, recovery and service limits in the same plan as the hardware. Use the detailed notes when preparing your deployment.

When a dedicated server makes sense

A dedicated machine removes other customer virtual machines from your host. It can provide more consistent resources and lets you choose a hypervisor, storage layout and host-level tuning. You still share upstream connectivity and the facilities that power and cool the equipment.

Build the right storage layout

Two drives are not automatically a backup. Mirroring can improve continuity when one drive fails; striping can favour capacity or throughput while increasing exposure to a drive failure. Keep independent backups and test a restore before production data depends on the machine.

  • Use encryption where the workload requires it
  • Watch SMART and filesystem health where available
  • Document partitioning and recovery steps

Remote control needs strong boundaries

Out-of-band management is powerful because it can operate below the installed operating system. Restrict management access, rotate credentials and use it only from trusted networks. Availability and access method must be confirmed for the selected configuration.

A machine matched to the workload

Compare the range from entry infrastructure through high-density compute. Confirm the hardware, stock, installation time, replacement procedure and network terms for your selected order.

Engineering options beyond the five standard machines

GPU nodes, additional NVMe storage and specific network interface cards require a custom-configuration request. Their price, stock, compatibility, power and lead time require an individual verified quote. Confirm stock and the full quote before planning a workload around custom hardware.

Monthly or annual hardware billing

All five dedicated tiers offer monthly billing or an upfront payment for one 12-month period with a 30% discount compared with 12 separate monthly payments. The annual total is 12 times the listed monthly price multiplied by 0.70, rounded once to cents, with no setup fee. Check renewal, cancellation and refund terms with your order. Review remote IPMI/KVM access and operating-system reinstall options with your order. The catalogue targets roughly five minutes for a reinstall and thirty minutes for initial deployment; confirm the delivery terms for the selected machine.

What happens when a part fails?

The hardware-support agreement should explain component replacement or storage migration after a confirmed fault. Check the restoration window, data-risk limits, spare availability and customer responsibilities. Confirm component availability and the applicable replacement commitment for your selected hardware.

What belongs to the dedicated service

The dedicated range reserves a complete physical machine for one customer. The specified processor, ECC memory and NVMe drives belong to that configuration; there is no customer VM hypervisor inserted by the catalogue. Network links, transit and facility systems remain shared services. An included management console does not turn the machine into a managed application service.

  • IPMI or KVM access for console and recovery tasks
  • Operating-system reinstalls without a separate reinstall charge
  • IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity, edge mitigation and a technical support path
  • No setup fee in the published catalogue

Reinstall deliberately, then verify access

A reinstall replaces the installed system and can erase application data. First export anything that must survive, confirm the chosen disks and image, and keep the management console available. The intended reinstall target is around five minutes, separate from the roughly thirty-minute initial dedicated provisioning target. IPMI/KVM access is intended to be available immediately when the machine is activated, rather than after a separate support request. Actual completion must be reported by the provisioning service, not inferred from a countdown.

  • Save an independent backup before confirming
  • Check the new SSH host key through a trusted channel
  • Apply updates, recreate the firewall and test a permitted administrator login

A hardware SLA needs a hardware recovery process

A hardware fault and an application outage need different responses. A useful hardware agreement identifies the component checks, replacement or migration procedure, customer notifications and the point at which recovery is considered complete. The hardware terms for the selected order govern any replacement window, recovery procedure and service-credit remedy. Check that scope before relying on a particular repair deadline.

Custom GPU, storage and network hardware

The five standard configurations are a starting catalogue. A different GPU, additional NVMe devices or a particular NIC requires a separate engineering specification and quote. State the application, accelerator memory, disk count and capacity, endurance needs, interface speed and expected sustained load. Compatibility, power, cooling, delivery and support scope must be confirmed before a custom order is priced.

  • A GPU request does not mean a GPU is included in a standard tier
  • Additional IP quantities, RAID layout and extra hardware fees require a written quote
  • Use the contact information page to find the verified enquiry channel when the service opens
05 / BEFORE YOU COMMIT

Questions for this service.

Ask about your project
Do multiple NVMe drives mean my data is mirrored?

A drive count does not establish a storage layout. Confirm how the operating system will use the drives. Mirroring and other layouts still need a separate, tested backup.

Can I request a GPU or a different network card?

GPU, extra NVMe and specific NIC requests require an engineering quotation. No public add-on price is listed. Confirm the proposed hardware and availability before including it in your design.

How does IPMI or KVM differ from SSH?

SSH reaches the installed operating system. Out-of-band management can provide access below that layer. Treat management credentials and access paths as sensitive, and confirm the method supplied with your order.

Can I run a hypervisor?

A hypervisor needs compatible virtualisation support, image compatibility, additional IP requirements and a permitted network layout. Check these before ordering.

Is this a managed service?

The catalogue describes infrastructure with administrator control. Application administration, hardening and backup management require a separate agreement if you want them performed for you.

Can I pay annually?

Yes. All 15 standard VPS, dedicated and Windows RDP plans offer an upfront payment for one 12-month period with 30% off the cost of 12 separate monthly payments. The annual total is calculated from the listed monthly price, multiplied by 12 and then by 0.70, and rounded once to cents. Monthly billing remains available.

Is a dedicated OS reinstall a paid add-on?

The intended dedicated service includes template-based reinstalls without a separate reinstall fee. A reinstall can erase data; backup and application recovery remain the customer’s responsibility.

Can I add a GPU or more NVMe storage?

Custom GPU, NVMe and NIC requirements can be specified for a separate quote. Custom changes are individually quoted, with compatibility, stock and delivery recorded in the specification.

Does the largest dedicated plan have two processors?

Apex Metal describes two AMD EPYC 9755 processors. The catalogue totals are 256 cores and 512 threads, with 2,048 GB ECC memory and four 7.68 TB NVMe devices.

Are dedicated snapshots a replacement for backups?

No. A dedicated snapshot implementation, retention policy and recovery scope must be explicitly identified if offered. Independent, tested backups are required for data you cannot recreate.

Does KoalaVPS log what I do on my server?

No. KoalaVPS does not keep logs of activities carried out on customer servers. Necessary records for your account, orders, payments, support and account security are separate. Your own operating system and application logs remain your responsibility.

BARE METAL / BUYING ANSWER

Choose physical isolation for a reason.

Dedicated configurations start at $70.00 per month and allocate a whole machine rather than one guest system. The range includes Intel Xeon and AMD EPYC configurations, ECC memory and multi-drive NVMe layouts. This is a useful model when virtualisation, memory density or sustained work justifies hardware control. Two drives and a management console still require a deliberate recovery plan.

Does a dedicated server include a managed application stack?

The catalogue describes administrator-controlled hardware, not a separately contracted managed application service. Confirm the exact machine, stock, network terms, recovery access and support scope before moving production data.
