Why choose Arch Linux?
Arch Linux uses a rolling release model. It suits operators who want current software and are prepared to follow project announcements, review changes and maintain the system actively.
Keep the system supported
Perform complete supported upgrades, read relevant announcements and keep recovery access ready. Partial package upgrades can leave incompatible components. Community build recipes require their own security review.
A good workload fit
Development environments, reproducible experiments and specialist tools can benefit from current packages when the operator accepts the maintenance responsibility.
Secure the first login
Verify the SSH host key through a trusted channel where available. Add your own public key, use a unique administrative account and limit inbound ports to the services you actually run. Keep a tested path back in before changing firewall or authentication settings.
Four specialist image options
A rolling base can be kept simple, trimmed further for a minimal worker, bundled with Docker or equipped with a headless Wayland environment for supported graphics testing. Confirm the exact image and release before planning a deployment around a specialist bundle.
- Base: a clear, maintained starting system
- Minimal: a smaller footprint with fewer included conveniences
- Docker: container tooling with its network behaviour reviewed
- Headless Wayland: remote graphics or browser-test tooling
Rolling needs a rehearsal route
Keep a test machine or reproducible image for changes that can affect production. Read upgrade notices, perform supported complete upgrades and preserve a recovery route. A minimal image makes its operator responsible for installing the diagnostics and tools needed to maintain it.
Extended image variants
These specialist variants differ from the six Linux choices in the configurator. Confirm the requested image is available, uses a supported release and has compatible drivers and a documented update path.
