Moving from Linode / Akamai

Know which network and managed features you use.

A migration planning guide for Linode / Akamai workloads. Keep the useful parts of your current stack and move only what the destination can support.

Inventory the dependencies

List compute instances alongside load balancers, object storage, managed services and any broader network products. A compact VPS catalogue will not reproduce every platform feature, so keep or replace each dependency deliberately.

Keep locality visible

If components remain on the existing platform, test the new paths to them. A nominally nearby region can still introduce enough round trips to affect a chatty database client or storage workflow.

Rebuild before switching

Take a consistent export, encrypt the backup and create the destination from a supported image. Restore application data, configure secrets privately and test the service under a temporary hostname. Verify jobs, mail, uploads and external integrations as well as the homepage.

Cut over with a way back

Lower DNS TTL in advance where useful, plan a final data synchronisation and switch only after validation. Keep the previous service available for an agreed rollback window, then remove billable resources and credentials after independent backups are confirmed. No fixed one-hour migration promise is made.
