Moving from DigitalOcean

A Droplet may be only part of the application.

A migration planning guide for DigitalOcean workloads. Keep the useful parts of your current stack and move only what the destination can support.

Inventory the dependencies

Inventory managed databases, Spaces storage, load balancing, Kubernetes, DNS and application-platform dependencies. Some components can remain with their current provider while compute moves, but cross-provider latency and traffic cost need measuring.

Separate platform convenience from compute

A self-managed VPS does not automatically replace a managed database or deployment platform. Include patching, upgrades, availability design and backup work in the decision.

Rebuild before switching

Take a consistent export, encrypt the backup and create the destination from a supported image. Restore application data, configure secrets privately and test the service under a temporary hostname. Verify jobs, mail, uploads and external integrations as well as the homepage.

Cut over with a way back

Lower DNS TTL in advance where useful, plan a final data synchronisation and switch only after validation. Keep the previous service available for an agreed rollback window, then remove billable resources and credentials after independent backups are confirmed. No fixed one-hour migration promise is made.
