Moving from AWS EC2

List the cloud around the instance.

A migration planning guide for AWS EC2 workloads. Keep the useful parts of your current stack and move only what the destination can support.

Inventory the dependencies

An EC2 instance can depend on EBS, object storage, managed databases, queues, identity policies, load balancers and monitoring. Exporting one disk does not reproduce those surrounding services. Decide which dependencies to retain, replace or redesign.

Architecture matters

Check x86 versus ARM compatibility, virtual disk formats, boot configuration and licensing. A configuration with the same memory and core count may have a different CPU allocation or storage model. Compare with a representative application benchmark.

Rebuild before switching

Take a consistent export, encrypt the backup and create the destination from a supported image. Restore application data, configure secrets privately and test the service under a temporary hostname. Verify jobs, mail, uploads and external integrations as well as the homepage.

Cut over with a way back

Lower DNS TTL in advance where useful, plan a final data synchronisation and switch only after validation. Keep the previous service available for an agreed rollback window, then remove billable resources and credentials after independent backups are confirmed. No fixed one-hour migration promise is made.
