## Separate identity from confidentiality

A no-KYC account reduces routine document collection. It does not hide public DNS, exposed ports, software fingerprints, blockchain transactions or information you publish. Encryption protects particular data paths; it does not make every activity anonymous.

## Map the observers

Consider the host, payment network, exchange, domain registrar, DNS operator, upstream connectivity and external APIs. They see different information. Write down what each party needs and avoid sending the same personal identifier everywhere without a reason.

## Use a practical baseline

Choose supported software, protect logins, separate secrets and keep backups. A compromised application is a more direct privacy failure than an imperfect marketing label. Monitor the services you expose and remove those you no longer use.

## Check promises against evidence

Read the operator identity, retention policy, acceptable-use terms and legal handling. Ask for a defined backup policy and verified infrastructure details. No provider can promise universal immunity from legal process.

## Assess three layers independently

The provider account concerns collected identity and service records. The payment layer concerns wallet history, intermediaries and invoice data. The workload layer concerns applications, public identifiers and access controls. An improvement in one layer does not automatically repair a weakness in the others.

## Read the evidence behind privacy claims

Transparency reports need dates and a counting method. A warrant canary needs exact wording and a verified publication process, and is not conclusive proof of an absent legal demand. Jurisdiction claims need a real legal operator. Keep the strongest weight on practices you can inspect: minimisation, retention, access and recovery.

## Turn a privacy preference into acceptance criteria

Before comparing hosts, write one short requirement for each observer. A requirement should be checkable: which signup fields are mandatory, which payment asset and network are supported, which application logs are retained, and which operator contracts with you. Decide which unanswered questions would prevent deployment. A brand’s mascot, national flag or payment logo cannot substitute for these answers.

- Signup: inspect the actual required fields and recovery flow; distinguish an optional profile field from a billing prerequisite.

- Payment: read the final invoice, fees and refund rules. Check whether an intermediary has its own identity requirements.

- Network: inventory public A/AAAA records, listening services and third-party API connections. Record what remains observable.

- Jurisdiction: identify primary data, backups, support access and the contracting entity. Keep the policy version used in your review.

## Test one service before moving the whole stack

Use a small, non-sensitive deployment to test access, reboot behaviour, support instructions and an independent restore. Record the observed result and date. Do not turn a single successful installation into a general uptime or privacy claim. If an application unexpectedly exposes its origin address, inspect DNS, certificate names and direct network listeners before changing hosting providers.

- Keep a short evidence record: claim, source, date checked, actual test and unresolved limitation.

- Read a transparency report’s time period and definitions before comparing totals. A missing or changed warrant canary requires context, not an automatic conclusion.

- Revisit the review when adding a CDN, payment processor, monitoring tool or external model API; the data path has changed.
